Let's just say I had a bad knee-jerk reaction to this book. It felt forced and gimmicky to me. I am very happy for anyone that enjoyed it and felt like this book did something positive in it's representation of a particular boy with autism.

To this particular reader, it felt contrived and like an attention/award grab. Tackle an emotionally charged topic that's not sufficiently represented in literature and add a thin veneer of mystery and drama. Make sure to fill the pages with diagrams, emotico

This is the second time I've read this book, except this time I listened to the audiobook. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and would definitely recommend this. I thought the reader did a nice job with it. I really enjoyed the main character's perspective as he worked through this fears and tried to come to grips between his world view and reality. I really enjoyed this and will probably pick up again in the future. It's just one of those books that has stuck with me. ...more

Haddon drew from experience working with autistics to write this book of fiction and I believe that's the secret to its success. Fast reading. For leisure. ...more

In this book, the story is told from the viewpoint of an autistic boy. The author of the book is apparently very aware of the characteristics of autism. I have an autistic step-brother so I could relate to some of the reactions and actions of the main characters in the book. The book is quite disturbing but is an interesting read.
