Wow! Quite an epic novel here! I can see why this one is a classic.

At first, I was not sure how this one was going for me. As it is very long and hit a somewhat slow and repetitive patch about a third of the way through, I thought it was going to be 3 or 4 stars. I was totally engrossed in the beginning. The protagonist Clyde is very likable and I immediately bonded. I was excited for him and his adventures. The constant repetition in the writing became unnerving. “Clyde was not going to do this, no he couldn’t, he couldn’t even imagine it...no no he would not”. It went on and on, sometimes for pages. I was teleported to a Dr. Seuss book every three chapters or more. I was left very unsatisfied with the ending, too many loose ends.

Extremely well written book. But the subject matter is a bit heavy and I keep finding myself avoiding picking it back up. You know he’s careening toward a dark abyss. I just don’t want to watch it or see how it ends. Need to DNU so I can move onto another story.
