Astoundingly beautiful prose, a self-aware psychotic narrator who is both unapologetic and yet disgusted by his crime...so many themes in this book, so much symmetry (342).

Humbert Humbert knows he is both brilliant and insanely obsessed with pre-pubescent girls. He tortures his psychiatrists "cunningly leading them on; never letting them see [he] knew every trick of the trade" (P. 34). I was somewhat forced into rereading this book thanks to my book clubs decision to work through classics now and then. However, I have to honestly admit that I could not read it, nor could I set aside the fact that time and history have shown how very wrong it is that such a book is considered a classic. I happily abandoned it, and happily notified my book club that I would not attend to discuss the book.
