This book is a classic that is on a lot of required reading lists. I can understand that as it gives a fictional glimpse into the Westernization of Africa. A topic like this is very heavy, controversial, and important – because of this, a tale in this genre is going to have a big impact and will easily make its way to must read status.

This is a surprising book. It's an easy-flowing read, despite the African vocabulary used in the narrative (to which there is a glossary, but I only found out about it after finishing - one of the downsides of reading the kindle version). The world depicted in the novel is very interestingly described because it comes from the perspective of an insider, who tells it like it is, without judgement or prejudice. Someone's status update from this book says: "At the end of Part 1 and beginning of Part 3 this novel really turns around and becomes quite good."

I agree with this. Was getting very sleepy and tiresome, nearing the end of Part 1.
