I feel bad for not liking this but I could barely stay awake reading it. Maybe I was in a trance through the good parts. It was too matter-of-fact and lacked the heart and emotion needed to draw me in. I care about the exploitation of Africans, but I didn't care for this book. Good thing it was short. This is a surprising book. It's an easy-flowing read, despite the African vocabulary used in the narrative (to which there is a glossary, but I only found out about it after finishing - one of the downsides of reading the kindle version). The world depicted in the novel is very interestingly described because it comes from the perspective of an insider, who tells it like it is, without judgement or prejudice. I guess the thing that is most disturbing to me about this book is that The White Man is portrayed as evil. He is the reason things fall apart and drives Okonkwo to suicide. Christianity wasn't the bad thing that came south of the Niger and introduced to these people. I feel it was the way it was introduced to them that soured their way of living.

Shows how diverse cultures may get along if not influenced by their worst members (which are usually their leaders).
