My second book by Kurt Vonnegut Jr in a row - reading this after Breakfast of Champions.
It is just hard to stop reading a Kurt's book - so much novelty and so little seriousness!!
Billy Pilgrim is a lost mind. He never dies and his mind takes him to different times at random. He just has no clue like us where he will be led to next. He takes us through the events of his unusual life - of being on a spaceship of aliens from Tralfamador who kidnap him(looks mostly like for experimentation and ...more

# 3 is the charm it seems as I was required to read this for my Science Fiction book club. As before, this was an interesting if not slightly bizarre read with time jumps, strange characters and a lot of references that were probably not the kindest back in the 70's, but that are more problematic now. Most of all, I saw how Vonnegut's wry wit came through and his ability to share the most horrible of life's events right after something simple and mundane. The time jumps are common place these da

I fell in love with a book, then it ended.
So it goes.
War is fought by mere babies. So it goes.
Many of these babies die; some come home and grow old. So it goes.
Old soldiers sometimes become old drunks with breathe that smells of roses and mustard gas. So it goes.
Billy Pilgrim becomes unstuck in time. So it goes.
He travels back an forth through different moments in his life. So it goes.
Some of these moments were during the second world war. So it goes.
Dresden, Germany ...more

I really liked the story. It was fast-paced, concise, and creative. I'm considering looking into other Vonnegut books in the future, that is if I'm not abducted and taken to Tralfamadore before I can make it to the bookstore.

I, finally, read this book. I am glad I did, although it was quite a tragic journey. WWII/Dresden is and never will be an easy topic for me to read, let alone any war, really. Lives are lost, people are starved and tortured. "So it goes." But this also happens in day to day life throughout the world. I guess I just want to continue to hope peace will be on earth one day. Hope is better than nothing at all, in my opinion.
