For the first time in a long time I am actually reading a Sword and Laser book on time! Annihilation is told through the scientific journals of biologist who is a member of the twelfth expedition into the very mysterious Area X. To me this style felt very reminiscent of classics like Lovecraft or Verne, with the question of the reliability of the narrator never far from my mind. Very psychological. Reminiscent of the New Wave SF I cut my teeth on.
This novel has so much interiority, that I'm baffled at how it was re-imagined into a movie, especially all of the bits that are beyond description or are about the feeling/experience of Area X.
