This review is a little spoiler-ey. And a tad annoyed. Don't read if you don't want to know.
Gorgeous historical, beautifully written which, nonetheless, felt angry towards homosexuals. Or, perhaps, men.
The main character is a brutal narcissist. I tried to find a metaphor to explain his behavior, thinking that perhaps he represented the old bourgeois?

I feel like I need therapy after this book....
If you like Hallmark movies, this book is not for you. If you like getting your heart ripped out and stomped on the floor while you say “Thank you, sir. May I have another?” then this book is definitely for you.
I finished the book at 3am and then just laid there staring at the ceiling so I am not even going to try to unpack everything that needs unpacking. It is too raw and just ugh....
But yeah, if this is not clear by now, amazing!

A beautifully written novel of 17th century England, gritty and violent, with an overt erotic charge. You know you have read something when you finish this one.
