Boy, does this author know how to write a thing or two in a can't-leave-this-book-until-I-finish-it.
Honestly, I was pissed. As in, really pissed. You see, 80% of the novel is done and Raffe in nowhere in sight.. I mean, who wouldn't miss a hero like Raffe? So his absence was a big no-no.
But when she does bring him into the picture?
I couldn't have love it more.
I agree, I would love a lot more amount of intimacy shown between Penryn and Raffe. They need some serious dose of romance. But still, wha ...more

World After was everything I'd expected it to be.
It had everything the first book had - interesting characters, fast plot, and good writing. In fact, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the writing in this one better than in Angelfall, though that may only be because I'm used to it now.
I'm not sure what else to say other than it was a very good sequel to Angelfall, and if you liked the first one, then you'll definitely like this one.
One warning, however - I'd definitely say that this book is darker than World After was everything I'd expected it to be.
It had everything the first book had - interesting characters, fast plot, and good writing. In fact, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the writing in this one better than in Angelfall, though that may only be because I'm used to it now.
I'm not sure what else to say other than it was a very good sequel to Angelfall, and if you liked the first one, then you'll definitely like this one.
One warning, however - I'd definitely say that this book is darker than the first one. Also, if you're a huge fan of Raffe, there is technically less of him in this book. However, the author doesn't make the separation too terrible. In fact, while I missed Raffe, I really liked that I got to see more of Penryn's character and how she developed, as well as more of her relationship with her mother.
One other thing that Ee does very well is exploring the deeper side of things. Most young adult novels will tell the story and that's it; sometimes there's a moral to it, but not always. It takes a good author and a very special author to make you see more to the book and to see the ramifications of some of the things they're saying in it. While some things in the book are unrealistic, there is always realism in her characters' relationships and their reactions. For example, (view spoiler)
However, all the little things that bothered me in the first book are still here in the second book. I will say that the pacing of this one was better, but there are still quite a few things that seem a bit too convenient for my tastes, which is why it's a 4 stars for this and not 5. Truly, I'd probably be giving these books 4.5 if I could, but I can't.
Nonetheless, World After was just as good as Angelfall, so if you liked that, you'll definitely enjoy this. I would recommend it to anyone and can't wait for the next book to come out! ...more

This is a perfect example of a great sequel to an amazing series. Ee did it again and made a hella great book! Penryn is so bad-ass that she can't even die! Ok, ok I know there were special circumstances and it was just luck but come on! I'm convinced Penryn will and can survive anything. After the whole dying thing, people are still pretty weary of Penryn because it's not everyday you see someone waking up from the dead, no matter the circumstances.

We learn a lot in this book, we learn more about Raffe and his brothers and past, which is nice because he feels more trustworthy and it seems like we really know his motives concerning Penryn are true and meaningful. It's pretty clear when the last book ended, that Raffe feels something for Penryn. Of course, the most anticipated thing in this book, for me at least, was the big reveal to Raffe that Penryn is alive. Which by the way guys, did not disappoint. It was very well written and even though the little love-sick girl in me wanted the reunion faster, it did happen at the perfect time and was well-paced for the plot line to thicken.

Now, the big question of the book is will the need for Raffe's wings overcome the love he has for Penryn? As usual, our protagonist finds herself in a tough and life threatening situation and Raffe's decision is critical. Aside from that, Penryn, as usual, was amazing and bad-ass. She kicked many butts and conquered many accomplishments. I liked her dynamic relationship with Obi. They respect each other which made me in turn respect Obi a lot more than in the first book. He ultimately wants to help his race, his people and it does shows. He trusts Penryn, which is good because he can clearly tell that if anyone can stop the apocalypse it's Penryn or at least her influence on Raffe.

Paige, Penryn's sister, really shone in this book! She came out of her shell, even after the horrific things that had been done to her. I really liked her lines and how empowering she was to everyone, almost like a beacon of hope and light, no matter how she looks. Of course we have problems with the other people who don't agree with keeping her alive, solely because she looks like a monster. That was just so heartbreaking to read and sad to see that her confidence would deflate just a little. But rest assured Paige rises stronger than ever and she really is a huge player in the storyline.

To end this review, I'm just going to share a quote Raffe said to Penryn after finding out his sword's name is called... Pooky Bear..., enjoy:

“He glares at me as if he already hates it. “What is it?” I consider lying but what’s the point? I clear my throat. “Pooky Bear"
He’s silent for so long I’m beginning to think he didn’t hear me when he finally says, “Pooky. Bear.” “It was just a little joke. I didn’t know.”
“I’ve mentioned that names have power, right? Do you realize that when she fights battles, she’s going to have to announce herself to the opposing sword? She’ll be forced to say something ridiculous like, ‘I am Pooky Bear, from an ancient line of archangel swords.’ Or, ‘Bow down to me, Pooky Bear, who has only two other equals in all the worlds.’ ” He shakes his head."

HAHAHAHAHAHAH GUYS, just read it, please.

WORLD AFTER by Susan Ee is the second book in the Penryn & The End of Days Series.

This Young Adult Fantasy Thriller is well written and richly detailed.

Penryn has recovered from her paralyzing scorpion/monster sting.
Raffe believes she is dead and wants nothing more than to get his stolen wings back from Beliel.

Paige has been turned into a nightmarish, twisted version of herself and everyone now views her as a monster rather than the scared and victimized little girl that she is.

This series continued to be amazing. The detail, characterization, compelling story... it's all very well done, and you always find something new on a re-read. Susan Ee's ability to show not only Penryn's, but all of the characters as opposed to telling about them is outstanding, with very few instances where there is a direct telling to the audience. Me ha gustado más que el primero, hay muchísima acción, y sentimientos, y "quieroynopuedo". Y a la par que resuelve preguntas y se descubren cosas del primer libro desde un nuevo punto de vista (Pookie Bear *-*) se van creando más, y todo se vuelve aún más oscuro, sangriento y cruel y no estoy en condiciones de seguir contando nada más.

Loved this so much! Raffe + Penryn = <3.
Still figuring out why the angels want to have an apocalypse though..
And WHY did Raffe only showed up in the book in the ending? Because I kind of missed the funny dialogues between him and Penryn in the beginning :( And WHY isn't the next one coming out until 2015?? Why Susan Ee, why?

This was fantastic! Darker than the first and so much more quickly paced (sorry awkward phrasing). I loved it!!! When I finished I couldn't believe it was over.
