Words cannot truly describe my love for this book. The writing is so, so beautiful and atmospheric, and the characters are brilliant (particularly Johannes.) I went into this book thinking it would be historical fiction bound in the supernatural, but there is so much more to it than that - heart breaking drama and overwhelming tension, embedded in the ambiguous mystery of the Miniaturist. Nope. DNF at 50%.

I'm just bored, not intrigued by the miniaturist nor any of the characters any more. I'm not in the mood to read about a woman's fight for freedom, love, affection...whatever you want to call it. Whilst I'm a tad curious about all the miniatures and whether there'll be a touch of magical realism? fantasy? something completely different? It's just not enough intrigue to keep read at this point in time. Maybe I'll revisit eventually but for no, it's a NO. ...more
