Trickery (Curse of the Gods, #1) in Reverse Harem? Anyone?

I didn't have high expectations for this, as I didn't enjoy the NYC Mecca.

My goodness, this blew me away.

+ Quite funny. The usual brand of snarky heroine gives me maybe a snort or two each book. This one had me laughing out loud several times at her antics and internal monologue.

"You're a recruit!" he accused, his voice a hiss as he moved closer.

"You're a boy!" I returned, a dose of horror shot into my tone, my finger raised in a point. "What are you doing in the girls' area?"

He had a moment

He had a moment. He totally had a moment. I could see it all over his face--before he realised that he'd just finished cleaning the rooms that he always cleaned, and then confusion descended.

"What are you doing in the male dorm?"

+ Very likeable heroine. She accepts that she's cursed and deals with it with unbowed head and a lot of humor.
+ I was expecting a lot more meanness from the guys to the heroine before they got together. There was really barely any before they progressed to a lot of casual holding and hugging, which was honestly pretty sweet.
+ Really liked a couple of characters in there, and yep, they got their own novella. Good.

Ok, I finished the series. Here's the down side:

- The relationship between the heroine and each hero is never fully fleshed out. They're just there as a group. Even their personalities are kind of the same. I was expecting more to develop in the later books, but they just stayed the same amalgamous mass of men. The only thing I came away with was, oh, hey, Pain gives some pain that feels good to her, and Trickery is always on her side so she likes that, and Persuasion has that whole dominance thing going on in sex. That's it. As a counterpoint to this, one of the first reverse harems I read was the currently unfinished Andinna series by Kristen Banet, and each hero is so clearly defined as his own person and has his own personal relationship with the heroine.

Nevertheless, it was still an overall fun read. The story was entertaining, and some parts were just funny as hell. ...more

Amazing and Exciting

This is just what I needed! It was perfect! It had humor, sexual tension, adventure, I couldn't get enough it was exciting, New and thrilling. I thrived on waiting to see what would happen next! I haven't been a fan of harems/reverse harems ever. Especially not after reading Anita Blake, where the MC seems to just need a lamest of reasons to get into a relationship with someone and have sex with them. The writing of that still makes me shudder. So. Bad.

But I happened to read a couple of quotes from this book and I was hooked with the sass. I am so glad I decided to read this. Because OMG I LOVE WILLA! And the Abcurses are just a particularly delicious bonus bundle of muscled goodness.
