Re-Read(10/20/2015-10/23/2015)
Originally read sometime around Halloween/October 2011
Since the trilogy is complete, I thought I'd marathon them. It being a couple years sine I've read this, I had forgotten its eerie vibe it gives off, as well as its equally eerie pictures given to us as we adventure and witness Jacob's story and peculiarity. Now that were a year away from the movie adaptation, I can finally see it come to life and trust my favorite director, Tim Burton, for this.

I think my expectations for this book may have been a bit unrealistic. The whole idea of it having creepy pictures is what really motivated me into reading this in the first place. However, even though I found the pictures to be extremely interesting, there was only a couple dozen which came in lots of 3s or 4s sporadically throughout the book - and less so in the end.

Going into this I didn't actually know what this was about. It took me about 100 pages to get into and I thought I just wasn't in the mood for reading this but then - I just couldn't put in down. It's a fantastic book and I also just love the design!

Book started with a bang and then slowed down half way through and then picked back up in the last 100 pages or so.
When the books starts its exciting and creepy and you can't wait to read the next page. Once you get half way through it, it kind of slows down to a point you have to drag yourself through it just to get further in the book. But it didn't last for too long!

This book was fantastic! I enjoyed every second of it. The book encapsulates so many emotions and feelings, in such a wonderful way. I can't wait to get onto the second one. The reason I didn't vote this 5 stars was due to the romance. I found it wasn't really necessary, and I think I would have preferred there to have just been a good friendship, but hey Young Adult literature must have a romantic aspect I guess. Would definitely recommend. Anyone who hasn't read this yet, what are you doing?

I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book, but I really enjoyed the second half of it. The last 100 pages or so were by far the best part to me as so much happened during them. I loved the old found photographs throughout the story and all of the peculiar children were fantastic. I like Jacob as a main character. I will definitely be picking up Hollow City soon and reading it because I am really interested in finding out what happens next.

What a creative way to incorporate old photos into a storyline. I really enjoyed seeing all of the characters portrayed in the photos, and how real it all seemed. Ransom is an action-packed writer, and I'm really looking forward to reading the next book!
