Gosh, I really do love this book. The first time I read this, it completely blew me away. This time, not as much because obviously, I new what was going to happen. It's still a 5/5 star read for me, and I can't wait to re-read Hollow City. SO FRIGGIN EXCITED FOR LIBRARY OF SOULS THOUGH OMG ...more

This book was so good and so much better than i expected. I want Hollow City now! I also heard that the movie for this is being pushed back 9 months to Christmas Day 2016, so i guess we all have to wait longer.

It wasn't as scary as I expected which I liked though because I am not a huge fan of scary, but I also don't get scared over things like movies or books often. Here is a terrible synopsis: So, this book is about a boy named Jacob who grew up listening to weird stories from his grandfather. Stories about children with weird talents and abilities that lived on an island in England, stories about monsters and more. Jacob believed his grandfather, but as he grew up started This book was really good. It wasn't as scary as I expected which I liked though because I am not a huge fan of scary, but I also don't get scared over things like movies or books often. Here is a terrible synopsis: So, this book is about a boy named Jacob who grew up listening to weird stories from his grandfather. Stories about children with weird talents and abilities that lived on an island in England, stories about monsters and more. Jacob believed his grandfather, but as he grew up started to doubt those stories. One night his grandfather is killed and Jacob see's a strange being (a monster) and is totally freaked out. He becomes depressed because of his grandfathers death and is a bit insane over the sight of the monster. He starts sessions with a therapist, Dr. Golan. Jacob tells Dr. Golan everything his grandfather told him and Dr. Golan helped put Jacob's mind at ease. Eventually, Jacob needs closure and him and his father go to the island his grandfather used to live on. His dad talked to Dr. Golan who thought it would be good for Jacob. Jacob visits the house his grandfather used to live in with the peculiar children and see's a girl and follows her into a cave and comes out in the 1940's. He finds all those children and stories from his grandfather to be true. The children lived in a time loop- time repeating, the same day over and over; the day their house is bombed and the loop resets before the bombs hit them. Miss Peregrine watched the loop to keep the children safe from monsters who are after peculiar children. Jacob falls in love with his grandfathers ex lover Emma and travels back and forth from the past and the present. Jacob finds out that he is peculiar too and his talent is the same as his grandfathers was: he could see the monsters. In present time, a new person comes to the small island and he is a bird watcher. He is very suspicious and usually has his face covered. The bird watcher turns out to be a monster who followed Jacob to the island to get to the peculiars and wants to kidnap Miss Peregrine. He was also Dr. Golan and was just disguised, which is why Dr. Golan let Jacob go to the island. Jacob accidentally betrayed all of the peculiar children by telling Dr. Golan all of his grandfathers stories. Golan kidnaps Miss Peregrine, but Jacob, Emma, and the other children save Miss Peregrine and kill two monsters, including Golan, during their journey. Miss Peregrine is half bird, half human who can control time loops, called a ymbryne and can transform back and forth between bird and peregrine. In the end she is stuck as a bird, but doesn't know why. Also, the time loop didn't reset so the children's house was bombed and the loop was about to close. Jacob went back to the present, told his father the truth and left to go with the children and Miss Peregrine to stop more monsters and stop what the monsters want to do which is become Masters of Time and immortals by using ymbrynes to help them. The book closes with all the children on a rowboat moving on and for once, planning for the future, on a new day. The book was good and the photographs worked very well with the story and helped to paint a better picture of the story in the reader's mind. I recommend this to any YA fans who are not easily frightened. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. ...more

im not quite sure how i feel about this book. on one hand i thought it was super interesting but on the other hand didnt find myself compelled to finish it so it took me forever to read it. i probably will continue on with hollow city sometime soon.
