Even though it did take me some time to fully get into the book, by the end of it I was craving more. Sarah J. Maas did a great job of building the characters, lore, and world of Throne of Glass and it was one of the more unique fantasies that I've read. Even though it did take me some time to fully get into the book, by the end of it I was craving more. Sarah J. Maas did a great job of building the characters, lore, and world of Throne of Glass and it was one of the more unique fantasies that I've read. I think that because of the building, the writing was a bit slow at times and I found myself dragging through it in the first half of the book, which is why I ultimately ended up giving this book a 4 star rating rather than something higher. Although, I will admit that my feelings about the pace could totally be due to my reading slump that I was in, and not entirely due to the writing.

The characters of this book became some of my favorites, and I absolutely adored Celaena as a heroine. She was the perfect mixture of bad-ass and heart, and she was a great protagonist. As for the two love interests, I can't make up my mind on who I enjoyed more. While I was reading the book there were times when I was 100% Team Chaol and then I would totally change my mind and be completely rooting for Dorian. This is definitely a first for me, because I can't think of another time when I have been so torn when it comes to who I want the main character to choose. (I've sat here for a few minutes now trying to decide if I'm even leaning towards one or the other in the slightest way and I can't seem to to come to a conclusion on that front either.) I'm really interested to see how Celaena's relationships with both of these guys grows in the next few books and who she ends up with.

Something that I absolutely loved about this book was the murder-mystery that took place throughout the book. It had me guessing and questioning characters and what was going to happen, and I loved it! I ended up figuring the plot twist, but even though I was sure about what was going on, Sarah J. Maas still had me on my toes and questioning my theory. This aspect of the plot was able to keep the story progressing at a manageable pace for me during those times when I felt like it was dragging along.

What really hooked me was the last 100 pages or so. To put it into a few words, it was epically action packed and awesome! I became so engrossed in what was happening that I couldn't put the book down and got so lost in the events that I totally forgot that I was supposed to be cooking rolls for Easter dinner (whoops...). Just thinking back on it now gets my blood pumping! SO GOOD!

Oh. My. Good. Lord. Now I've read fantasy novels, but nothing like this, and...IT WAS BLOODY PERFECT. The tests, the bad-assery that is Celeana Sandothrien and just...EVERYTHING. I loved this book so much, that I don't know if I can do a full book review on it. And the romance....when I first read this in the summer of last year, I loved it. A lot. This is a series that I have been intrigued by ever since it was released but decided to wait to see if the hype died down (spoiler alert it never did) so I finally caved and started the series

Why did I wait so long to read this?

Everyone is right, this book is great and I can't wait to continue with the series!

Celeana is such a wonderful character who shows that badass and girly are not opposite terms and that it's completely possible for a girl to kick ass and love dresses and think boys are cute.

There were some slow parts, but I think that's expected in a series opener, especially such a large series it's going to be. Kudos to Sarah J. Maas on creating a spectacular world with ...more
