Sono passati ormai sei anni dalla prima volta che ho letto questo libro e, sebbene vi abbia ritrovato tutti quegli elementi che avevano fatto impazzire la me sedicenne, la me di adesso non è della stessa opinione. Ma, dopotutto, resta sempre un libro che è capace di catturare l'attenzione e questa volta cercherò di non fermarmi e di andare avanti con la serie.

I love this book it's amazing. Celaena is my favourite kind of strong female lead because Sarah J Maas didn't try to diminish her feminine traits in order to make her strong. I feel like it's so common for authors to try and make a female character strong by simply giving them stereotypically masculine traits and separating them from other women. E.g they don't wear make up or dresses because they're not like ~other girls~
But Maas made Celeana fucking cool and she still has a love for fashion a I love this book it's amazing. Celaena is my favourite kind of strong female lead because Sarah J Maas didn't try to diminish her feminine traits in order to make her strong. I feel like it's so common for authors to try and make a female character strong by simply giving them stereotypically masculine traits and separating them from other women. E.g they don't wear make up or dresses because they're not like ~other girls~
But Maas made Celeana fucking cool and she still has a love for fashion and pretty things. And the other main woman in the book, Nehemia, was also kick ass and also a woman of colour. I absolutely love Nehemia's personality. She's so cool and I love that her and Celaena's friendship grew throughout the book, they're such a dynamite combination! I just fucking loved the way she presented the women of the book as not being handicapped by femininity, but finding strength within it. Not to say that you can't be a strong woman and have masculine traits of course, it's just that this type of character is much more underrepresented in the media.

I love the way the magical elements of the novel were brought in because obviously Celaena is our narrator and she isn't new to the world so it's not the kind of world building I'm used to from series like TMI and such where we learn about the supernatural elements along with the protagonist. So it's just kind of dropped in occasionally; really casual and I thought that was awesome and different to usual.

As far as the team Chaol vs team Dorian debate I just want to stay in this limbo of both of them because I love them and don't want her to have to choose. They're both so different, but good for her in different ways. I feel like I lean towards Dorian more personally, but I think Celeana likes Chaol more based off this book. I hope that there's a clear reason and choice in the end and it's not too heartbreaking when she has to pick because although I'm inclined towards Dorian, I basically switch depending on who she's with in any given scene...

This book was perfectly paced and the short chapters meant that I read it in big chunks at a time because when the chapters are two pages it's so much more tempting to 'just read one more chapter'. But yeah I feel that Throne of Glass lived up to the hype and I'm excited to move on to Crown of Midnight! ...more

Maybe it's more of a 3.5.
Yes, before it was three stars, but then I just realized that I was being nice and would have felt bad giving this a lower rating, but views have changed. There is a possibility of reading the next book in the series, but not in the near future.

In the end, I figured that I didn't absolutly love this book, but I didn't completly unlike it either, so three point five stars it is!

Honestly, I think this book was a little too hyped up for me. The main character in this book is an assassin and she's supposed to be the best and everyone knows who she is, but I felt like we were supposed to just believe them without any actual evidence. She also seemed a little too perfect and as I understand that her dream wasn't to become an assassin and she has other things that she can be good at, but it didn't seem very legit all the time. I did however, like her some of the time. I thought it was good that she had a bit of an additude at first and slowly her walls fell down during the book. She was sort of obnoxious at times though where it wasn't really nessacary but I mean, it happens. Her liking books was also a good addition. I really liked a few scenes in this book, but for the ones that I liked, there were some that I didn't find as interesting. Now, the writing was good, but the story itself didn't wow me all the time. I was personally okay with the love interests. Those scenes were really fun to read and I think I'm going towards Dorian a little more, lets be honest, but Chaol's cool too. I also like the princess as a character. Celeana needed a friend like her. I also liked the lady who would give her her clothes. She was so nice! I had the most trouble with this book around the middle. The last third of the book was good, even though I think it ended off a little.....eh, it left me wanting more and to continue on with the series. I think that this was a good start to the series, even if I didn't love all of it. ...more
