I was very excited to read this book since a) it's Rowling, b) it's my favorite genre and c) it's Rowling writing my favorite genre. So, 2016 has started in the best of ways. I adored this book, I really did. I wasn't expecting it, actually but it was such a nice surprise that I jumped right into the second book. I normally do not like mysteries. Typically I am easily able to guess who did it from the beginning and there is nothing there for me. This was not the case for "The Cuckoo's Calling." It had me guessing throughout the entire book and even when the killer was revealed I was still astounded. Definitely worth reading.

Just like with "A Casual Vacancy", the story started slowly, and then I was swept into Rowling's world. Yes, the book was dialogue heavy, but the ride was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the mystery, which was completely amusing and not at all frightening, mainly because Strike investigates the murder after the fact.
