What Members Thought

I was very excited to read this book since a) it's Rowling, b) it's my favorite genre and c) it's Rowling writing my favorite genre. So, 2016 has started in the best of ways. I adored this book, I really did. I wasn't expecting it, actually but it was such a nice surprise that I jumped right into the second book. Robin and Cormoran are two great characters I wish to accompany throughout this series. I got to admit though: it wasn't love at first sight at least when it comes to Cormoran. Cormoran

Well, I fell for all the red herrings I was supposed to while still guessing a few things (to feel a little bit smart).
Overall I enjoyed this quite a bit. I'm not super well read in mysteries but it seemed like a good one and, although Cormoran was a little rougher around the edges than I personally might have liked Robin was a 100% pure delight.

I normally do not like mysteries. Typically I am easily able to guess who did it from the beginning and there is nothing there for me. This was not the case for "The Cuckoo's Calling." It had me guessing throughout the entire book and even when the killer was revealed I was still astounded. Definitely worth reading.

Yes, the book was dialogue heavy, but the ride was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the mystery, which was completely amusing and not at all frightening, mainly because Strike investigates the murder after the fact. The characters are a little odd - including Strike - and the book favors certain conversations which I wasn't sure contributed to the mystery (for example Kiernan, who felt like a waste

J.K. Rowling did it again. I just can't stop reading it! I think it was a good idea to write it in a different name. It detached me from "Harry Potter". I can't wait to read the next one. Strike is a character that is so unlike Harry but still lovable in his own way.

I was guessing until the end...and still didn't see it coming!

JK Rowling is great at creating complex and interesting characters. That is the biggest strength, in my opinion, of this book. Any mystery fans would like this book.
