Audiobook is great. Fun and just one of those feel good stories (like a good sports movie where you're rewarded for rooting for the underdog). I didn't mind all the technical science bits. They were easily digestible but I think the audiobook helped with that as well. Good narration makes a big difference. 🚀👨🚀

The crew of Ares 3 was scheduled to spend a month on Mars, but was forced to abort their mission after just six solar days due to a dust storm. During the evacuation, botanist and mechanical engineer Mark Watney was left for dead.
Andy Weir's novel begins with the revelation that Watney is alive, marooned on Mars with no means of contacting the rest of his crew or anyone on Earth. Through chapters written predominately as log entries, we learn of Watney's plans to (view spoiler) ...more

The most surprising thing about "The Martian" is how it developed into a fully-blown, action-packed story with exciting plot twists as NASA and the entire world discover Mark Watney alive on Mars and root for his safe return home. While the science bogged down too many of the journal entries for a reader like me, the log was true to Mark's situation and his priorities, and read like a completely genuine trial of survival on another planet.

This was an excellent book. Andy Weir really knows how to write a book. Mark Watney was a very likeable character, he knew just how to add suspense, this thing was a masterpiece. However, I was bored by the science-y parts, there comes a point where you're just reading words on a page and don't understand anything, that was the science-y parts for me. ...more

I loved the story in this futuristic book, but the writing was way too technical for me to grasp. I had to continuously look words up in the dictionary and I imagined everything looking like it did in Star Wars and Star Trek.. Since I don't know what a real "spaceship" looks like inside! Interesting concept though!

The book was probably more like a 4, but the narrator on the audiobook was amazing. He the perfect tone and voices for the story. I am glad that I'd already seen the film, because it made visualizing all the equipment on Mars a lot easier. ...more
