What Members Thought
When I first started reading this, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it. While very humorous, all the technical stuff just doesn't compute with me. I am one of those people who believes airplanes and shuttles fly by magic! (Not really, but I just don't relate to the physics/engineering aspect).
Once the NASA chapters started and there are more voices relating the story, it just got better and better. By the end chapters, I was nearly holding my breath to see the outcome.

The most surprising thing about "The Martian" is how it developed into a fully-blown, action-packed story with exciting plot twists as NASA and the entire world discover Mark Watney alive on Mars and root for his safe return home. While the science bogged down too many of the journal entries for a reader like me, the log was true to Mark's situation and his priorities, and read like a completely genuine trial of survival on another planet.

The book was probably more like a 4, but the narrator on the audiobook was amazing. He the perfect tone and voices for the story. I am glad that I'd already seen the film, because it made visualizing all the equipment on Mars a lot easier. ...more

This was such a fun read! It is suspenseful, scientific, and funny. The "voice" of Mark Watney is unique and hilarious.
