This was okay. It was a fast read. I really liked that it was nonstop fast and full of action and never slowed down. This may be me, but it’s a little too much like Enders Game—both the good and the bad parts.

I didn’t like the writing on the sentence level. Also, this was so grossly sexist I kept rolling me eyes countless times. The only girl in the whole population is also lazily extracted from a lot of the action and key points in the story. And her defining tribute? Just that she’s really be This was okay. She does other stuff too, but we are reminded very often that this sixteen year old girl is super hot and everyone wants her. We don’t care how smart or tough she is. I’m not sure why she was in the story at all. She just does everything Thomas says and agrees with him all the time. So gross. So lazy.

She’s a cool character. However the narrative really misused and abuses her and makes her more of a plot device and an object than a character which is a shame.

Also lazy writing— the main character is basically a Gary Stu. The author made him Jesus basically. This main character is perfect! Immediately thrust into the unknown with kids they have been here for years, he instantly is the best and the smartest and sees things no one else does and figures things out no one else did. I like that not everyone loves or hates the main character Thomas, but I found it really unfair and unrealistic that he basically figures out everything and saves the day. I would have enjoyed if he shared these cool skills and the limelight with other characters—especially when it would make more sense, for example , to come up with certain ideas or to see things—like the fake out dive thing with Minho and Thomas, or the Griever Hole. I feel like someone else, like Minho and another runner, could have found these things and Thomas could have still done his smart and brave things and still be a cool hero. I liked the other characters and wanted to see them do more stuff instead of leaving it all up to Super Thomas.

Very easy to read. I could even skim some. Repeated or drawn out parts and not miss anything. I read it in less than a day. I’m not too enthused about continuing and reading the next one. A fun and mindless read especially towards the end with the high stakes. I don’t think I’ll read anything else by this author. ...more

The Maze Runner is no way like the hunger games at all so firslty if you are thinking that then stop get that out of your head and enjoy the Maze runner as it is not as a fan of the hunger games. The Maze Runner as the title suggests is set in a Maze in a dystopian future it follows the main charcture Thomas who comes to the Maze in a Metal lift he doesnt know who he is or were he came from only knows his name just like the other guys he meets in this maze and slowly Thomas gets to know his way ...more

What I Liked: I can totally see why this book was so popular when it came out. It’s action-packed and the situation with the maze creates a fascinating puzzle. It was a fun read-I really regret that it took me ten years to actually give it a chance. That said, it’s pretty typical of middle grade/young adult dystopian books that were coming out at the time.

Suspenseful, modern-day Lord of the Flies with a hero who's just too straight and predictable to be really likable. The world that Dashner created was fantastic, and I'll read the next book, but the hero, Thomas, is the least interesting character in the book. He's a solid narrator, but the author spends too much time putting on paper Thomas's inner dialogue, which isn't at all illuminating and detracts from the fast-paced action of the story. ...more
