This was okay. It was a fast read. I really liked that it was nonstop fast and full of action and never slowed down. This may be me, but it’s a little too much like Enders Game—both the good and the bad parts.
I didn’t like the writing on the sentence level. Also, this was so grossly sexist I kept rolling me eyes countless times. The only girl in the whole population is also lazily extracted from a lot of the action and key points in the story. And her defining tribute? Just that she’s really be ...more

It was a fun read-I really regret that it took me ten years to actually give it a chance. That said, it’s pretty typical of middle grade/young adult dystopian books that were coming out at the time.

Suspenseful, modern-day Lord of the Flies with a hero who's just too straight and predictable to be really likable. The world that Dashner created was fantastic, and I'll read the next book, but the hero, Thomas, is the least interesting character in the book. He's a solid narrator, but the author spends too much time putting on paper Thomas's inner dialogue, which isn't at all illuminating and detracts from the fast-paced action of the story.
