Liked but didn't love. Was slow to start however I eventually got into it. I would definitely read this book rather than listen to it because I think the photos add quite a bit of interest into the story. I'm curious as to how the movie coming out later this year will be.

Not what I was expecting. Pretty dopey, really. I felt like I was reading a high school assignment: "make a story around these pictures." The writing is pedestrian and the interweaving of story and photo is clumsy and uninspired. Two stars is probably too high a rating but I did finish the dumb thing.

A young boy has been fed odd stories by his grandfather for his entire childhood. When the grandpa dies a violent death, Jacob heads off to a remote island off the coast of Wales to find some answers -- only to be found by some peculiar children.

Cannot wait for the sequel. One of the best books I've read in a long time. Unusual and unique-a mystery, a horror story, a love story, and fantasy-all rolled up in one. I don't go out of my way to say "read this," but READ THIS.

Unfortunately, I just can't give this one five stars, despite the hype. A good start to what looks to be a series, but I can't get over the fact that Jacob just acts a little too young for his age. A sixteen-year-old should understand more than he does and react better to changes. The beginning of this book reminded me a lot of Going Bovine, but the main character was so much stronger in that one. Also, I am annoyed (spoiler alert kinda) that none of the kids talk about what its like to be a tee

This book was very cool. Old photographs are tied into the story. VERY interesting. It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it!

This was one of the strangest, most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Anyone who can weave a story around a bunch of found vintage photographs and incorporate equal parts horror story, time travel, and oddities and have everything make sense at the end is worthy of receiving a 5 star rating!
I had to finally read this now that there's a movie coming out. I liked the use of real vintage photos. Those really added to the creepy factor of the story.

It really reminded me of the show "Heroes". The book was great at the start, but it got to be too predictable and dull.
