Some of the stories were pretty cute, but most of them were pretty pointless. I was hoping for a bit more. I'd say I enjoyed maybe one out of every five stories, if that. ...more

Short story collections are a hard sell with me, but I couldn't resist BJ Novak. It took me a while to read this because I would come back to it between other books. This is a good collection of stories, mostly of the wry humor variety. They vary in length and some of my favorites are the shortest. Unlike a lot of recent humor books this isn't a collection of essays about BJ Novak's life, but actual short stories, often with a twist. And even more often with R rated language.

This is a strange collection of short stories. Some are laugh out loud funny, some are intelligent and some are head-scratchers. Novak certainly is a good story-teller, it's just some of his stories are a little too obscure for me. ...more

This was a really fun book to listen to. The author reads most of the short stories himself, but, includes several other actors for certain stories. Many of the stories were humorously absurd, others were humorously earnest. This was a great book to listen to on a commute. I would get to listen to a complete story by the time I'd get to work. Listening was a great way to consume this book. The author reads his stories well, as does all of his guest readers. ...more

I listened to this as an audiobook which I really enjoyed. The familiar voices of the narrators was really fun and added a dimension to the stories that wouldn't have been there if I would have just read it.

I loved the stories and thoroughly enjoyed the author's sense of humour and timing. It kept me chuckling throughout and kept me thinking.

Every story that seemed to be going somewhere or have some promise, fell flat. It got to the point that I had to force myself to finish it. And that only made me hate it more.

I did enjoy Kindness Among Cakes. Actually made me laugh. But it was only two sentences long. The rest was awful.
