"I figured that motherhood would be something that descended naturally, the same way my milk came in - a little painful, a little awe-inspiring, but part of me now for better or for worse. I waited patiently... any day now, I told myself, I am going to wake up and know what I am doing."
"My mother used to tell me that when push comes to shove, you always know who to turn to. That being a family isn't a social construct, but an instinct."

This is my least favorite JP book. Admittedly, part of the problem I had with this book was buying into the storyline. I just really had a hard time with the premise of a young girl performing miracles. The characters are well developed and interesting as in all of her novels. Parts of the story (for example the custody battle) dragged and I found some of the resolutions predictable. Her writing is marvelous which redeemed this book for me.

This is the story of a girl who starts to display the stigmata and speaking in tounges. Her mother has to battle to keep custody of her when everyone thinks the mother is either harming her or putting her up to everything. Picoult always comes up with new and interesting topics to write about and creates books I just can't put down.

I liked this book but I didn't love it. There were some good scenes in the book but it did get somewhat boring after a while. Good book overall.
