I enjoyed this book, how it showed so many different kinds of families and situations present in the 1960s in the South, how it integrated historical moments throughout the telling without focusing on them too much and slowing the plot, and so much more. The way Kathryn described Mississippi had me experiencing the heat or the cold, the windows rolled down in the old truck, the fields of the cotton farm. The way she presents the emotions of the people is very good as well - sadness, joy, excitem

LOVED IT!!!! I kept putting off reading this book, each time saying "nah, I'll read it next" but just recently picked up and went with it. I am so glad that I did. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next after finishing a chapter which of course made me stay up way too late most nights until I finished it.

A good read, although helped that I'd seen the movie so it was probably easier with pictures already in my head. Really liked the story, but the story itself still makes me upset. Hate that people are still treated differently because of their colour.
