This book, The Gunslinger and The Wastelands were the best in the series. I don't know if I was trying to read too fast or if I just didn't fully understand the rest of this epic tale, but they kind of fell off for me at the end. That's why I'm going to read them again!!
I've read this one before, of course, and remembered it a little too well. I remembered how everything was going to end...so I took a little of the story away from me this time, but still a great book. ...more

So this entry was so much more enjoyable to me than the first (The Gunslinger). There was more story to follow, less world-building. I know my middling review has mostly to do with the time period in which this book was written. It was written at a time when it was still ok for the protagonists to be quite misogynistic. It was also written at a time when it was not as shocking to read racist pronouns and attitudes so casually when they are not necessary for the plot. Keeping in mind, none of the ...more

Great book and second in The Gunslinger series. This one introduces Eddie and Susanna and sets us up for the next in the series and the true start of the threes path along the Beam. All things serve it...
