I was not sure what to expect with this book. The title doesn't give much away, and neither does the blurb on the back. I had only heard good things about it, and after attending a Q&A with the author as part of the Rick O'Shea Book Club (and winning Jessie Burton's new book The Muse!) I said I have to go read this!

And I was not disappointed at all! A different book, refreshingly so. But I was reminded a bit of Rebecca at the start. But it's nothing like Rebecca! I don't think I can write much w ...more

I LOVED this book. I thought it was very interesting, different, and very original. I liked how the author didn't take the easy way out and give you a nice, happy ending, but ended it more real life.

I did find the miniaturist part a bit different. I still don't quite know what to make of the miniaturist...and I am not sure if it added or distracted from the story of the family.
