3,5 stars (so 4). And I stick to that rating after the second read.
I admit that a second read does add to the novel. I picked up on more and got hints that flew right past me on a first reading. But I do stick to my opinion that some of these characters are and act so stupidly. The purpose of the Miniaturist did become more clear, however.

The Miniaturist is unforgettable. It's not a conventional love story, it's about artistry and psychic connections and foretellings that defy belief. It's about her artistry and delighting in it and empowering it.
