Loved this book and couldn't put it down. It had a great blend of just-over-my-head science and accessible science... very sciencey! And also a good amount of humor and obviously oodles of drama.

Interested now to see the Matt Damon movie as I got the impression it was FAR from a comedy. Plus I'm a little mystified how you'd fit everything into a 2-hour movie but still explain things to the audience... but we shall see.

But yeah, I'd highly recommend this book to just about everyone.

It is astonishing how low the stakes felt in this book - especially when the subject is just about the ultimate test of human resilience and ingenuity. The description "trifle" kept coming to mind. That being said, it is extremely pleasant and worked perfectly as a travel book.

Overall, worth a read but don't expect the sun and the stars (just Mars).
