Much funnier than I expected- glad I read it before catching the movie.

Interesting characters, solid writing, and nothing dragged on. The length was about the same as the last book I read, but this one was finished much quicker both due to the writing style (lots of dialogue, happily surprising for a book where the main character was alone for pretty much the entire time!) and my own interest level.

My only real criticism is that there wasn't much reason for nail-biting. Each time something tru

I really enjoyed this book, after I got into it. The first part is very sciency, which is just not my thing at 10:00 at night, so it took me a bit to get into the groove of the book. The story was great, although within the first 10 pages, I was skeptical about the luck of being both an engineer and a botanist while stranded on Mars. I liked the plot but there was far too much technical information, I got quite confused! I felt I needed to be a rocket scientist to understand half the stuff.

The book was due back at the library yesterday so I skipped over 50 pages around the 300 page mark rather than renew it...then I decided to renew it. I don't think I missed out on anything by skipping over some pages!

I really enjoyed this book. At times I felt the calculations were a bit overdone, but I really enjoyed the overall plotting. The fact that there were things Watney knew that Mission Control did not, and vice versa. I am curious as to how the film will handle much of the internal dialogue. Watney's MacGyver-ish talents were interesting, and he had a fun personality. Astronauts are a special class of people. ...more

More like 3.5...this book is not my normal cup of tea, so for a while, I had to push myself to read it. I had different expectations going in, but I know science readers will love this.
