I don't have the right words to describe the deep, richness in this book. It's one of those that will go down in history as one of the most well-told stories ever. Mandel is a master at weaving in and out and in between characters and perspective. I can't recommend this book enough.

The caption on the book says: 'Disturbing, inventive and exciting' This it is not. It is however a sequence of loosely connected events that are beautifully described. Personally; I found the elegant prose did not counter the clunky dialogue. As Dystopian novels go it did not really bring anything new to the table. I didn't get that far into this book but I disliked it too much to waste any more time on it. I didn't care about any of the numerous flat characters, some of whom aren't even given names and are referred to by things like "the seventh guitar." I didn't understand why they either didn't bother rebuilding so many things or how they were so remarkably unsuccessful at it. The way characters acted made little sense to me and overall I thought this book was just really boring.
