About my 4th time devouring this timeless book now. If you’ve never read any Gaiman this is a great one to start with! Neverwhere is one of my all time favourite books, I am a huge Gaiman fan and often recommend this book for those new to his writing to start with. It's got everything a great book needs. Please make another Gaiman movie from this! It would be incredible.

With a fantastically interesting plot where a young man suddenly finds himself by accident caught up in a London that is not the London he normally visits daily. This is London underground, a whole world built under the streets of London where creatures and characters thrive, survive, live and die. It's a fantastical world that just sucks you into it's magic.

Under the streets of London there's a place most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet. This is the city of the people who have fallen between the cracks.

Richard Mayhew, a young businessman, is going to find out more than enough about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his workday existence and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and utterly bizarre. And a strange destiny awaits him down here, beneath his native city.

There are dark characters that are so fantastically written, evil and cruel, creepy and dangerous. In fact all the characters in this book, each and every unusual one of them are amazing, the heroes, the villains, all of them. Those in human form and those not - like the talking rats. Brilliant Gaiman imagination at work.

This human man who has been caught in this world finds himself tangled up in a mission of sorts, this is nothing like his boring everyday life he lives and he grows and changes through the novel as he is faced with unbelievable situations and challenges.

This is Gaiman's magic, you enter this world and you stay there through the entire book. It's fascinating, it's addictive, it's magical, it pulls you in and does not let go. Page after page of fantastic fantasy beneath the streets of London, incorporating real London places, but the alternate version of them. A secret world beneath the streets. I actually read this book and wondered if indeed, a world does exist beneath the streets of London.

If you like escapism when you read, if you like things a bit quirky and different, if you are brave enough to even step out of your normal genres that you read, you will LOVE Neverwhere. High praise for this one. It's entertaining, plotted well, with memorable characters and tense moments. What more could you want really?

Gaiman has done it again - a magical book with the power to stay with you forever. Grab it whichever way you can and enjoy. And if by chance you do find this world under the streets of London, drop me a line so I can come visit you there.

Okay, so I decided to give this a shot because I just learned over the last couple of years that I suddenly like fantasy type of novels, which have always been a "NO WAY" for me. This novel reminded me why I do not like fantasy novels and maybe those few that I read were the mere exceptions. It's not that I don't have an imagination; it's that this just didn't do it for me. This was a great book. People who communicate with rats, women who can open doors to any place in any time, and entire underground world, complete with bad guys for hire( who will eat you if you irritate them enough), and an average joe who gets stuck in the middle of it all.
