What Members Thought
Le Guin is my favorite writer. Lots of philosophical questions and morality plays in this science fiction classic. Very entertaining as a peaceful, unassuming man with a great power he can't control squares off against an arrogant, controlling man who wants to control his power.
That this ends with the reader not being sure what is real and what is not, is intended, but I knocked it down one star, anyway, because I didn't understand the role the aliens played in this story, and I think their rol ...more

Not a novel as much as parable about changing the world. So simple, and yet so amazingly powerful.
Not a novel as much as parable about changing the world. So simple, and yet so amazingly powerful.
One of my favorites by Le Guin so far.
It was very eerie reading this during the COVID 19 pandemic.
“But it’s not right to play God with masses of people. To be God you have to know what you’re doing. And to do any good at all, just believing you’re right and your motives are good isn’t enough. You have to … be in touch.”
Great sci-fi. I can see why it got all the awards in its year of publication.
