Very few works of science fiction truly live up to the potential of the genre. It might be because all science fiction is, to an extent, a thought experiment, a “what-if.” But, it is, as Ursula Le Guin points out, a twist on the present. Even when the book is ostensibly about the future or another world, it is still inevitably tied to our own reality. Third reread for this one. I still love him, but by god PKD needed an editor. There are a lot of jumps in logic and exposition. On the other hand, this guy's mind was pure magic. This is why I feel like his short stories are the best bang for your buck.
