A very interesting book on the history of Voodooism in New Orleans, but also on the peoples who inhabited New Orleans prior to the Louisiana Purchase and created a vastly different cultural world from the rest of the United States. I learned quite a bit of New Orleans history from this book. As famous as Marie Laveau is, I was surprised to find out that there were actually two Marie Laveaus (mother and daughter) and that the first Marie Laveau was actually born way back in 1801.
