Not a perfect novel but since when did we grammar check on passionate works of necessity? To read Native Son is to walk the snowy Chicago streets, circa the 1930's, and feel all of it. The urban squalor, the racism, the political and social unrest, it's all on display here and delineated absolutely beautifully.
