If you have ever read Charles Dickens, you will know that his plot lines, characters, and literary devices are myriad, and for my thinking, Our Mutual Friend might employ more of those than any other of his novels that I have read. In the beginning, this made the thread a little harder to keep untangled, but in the end, it served his purposes beautifully.

Book 4, chapter 13 "Showing how the golden dustman helped to scatter dust" was very disappointing and I don't know what circumstances made Dickens to write it. Whatever it was he was not able to change previous chapters as they were already published and when he made his mind to change something it was bound to be sloppy. He knew that and to please readers wrote excellent next chapter. :)

Spent a rainy day submerged with the characters of Our Mutual Friend. I am truly going to miss them! Loved Charles Dickens sense of karma and irony!
