How is it possible that I hadn't read this book until I was 50 years old? Perhaps I'm more like Schmendrick than I ever thought.

A couple things touched me more than I expected. "Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale." And the story of the little spider.

It cannot be an ill fortune to have read "The Last Unicorn".

reading this after reading stardust makes me feel like neil gaiman really was inspired by this tale.
it also made me interested in reading the graphic novel, as the dialogue didn't flow easily in this adaptation, but i'm intrigued by the story of the last unicorn and her journey to find the rest of her kin
