I had forgotten how moving and perfect this short story was. It encapsulates Christmas and all of its original meaning, and it reminds us without doubt that we are meant to worship through service to others.

What a powerful little book on the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to adore Christ. Artaban, the fourth Wise Man, missed his appointment to join his three fellow Magi in adoring the Christ child, but what he did was far more important… he lived Christ’s message for coming to Earth. For me, this was a very moving story. A perfect story for Advent.

Artaban, a wise man, was supposed to meet up with the other 3 wise men, and they were to proceed to Judea following the star in the sky which had been prophesized to be signaling the birth of the Christ child. But Artaban got waylaid, stopping to help someone and missed his meetup. He follows behind the whole journey and for the next 33 years, always one step behind seeing Jesus, because stopping to help someone in need always delays him, also giving away his gifts for Jesus to those in need.
