The girl, who was the model for this story, lived alone on the Island of St.Nicholas from 1835 until1853. She is known as The Lost Woman of San Nicholas. This is a marvelous story of curiosity, inventiveness, resilience, and bravery in the face of monumental obstacles. The book is a gem.
