I started this book planning to feel underwhelmed, and I was surprised how much I liked it.

A girl lives by herself on an island for 18 years (based on Robinson Crusoe?). A lot of stuff happens and a lot of stuff doesn't. But I still kept reading. O'Dell's primitive descriptions made the book (namely, the main character) more realistic.

I feel it was deserving of the awards it received. Not my very favourite book, but it's well-written.

I remember reading this and it was probably for school because it wasn't something I'd normally read. I didn't care for it much. ...more
