This book is such an anomaly. Short and self obsessed, narrowly focused but so profoundly far reaching in its observations on youth, frustration, promises deterred and potential greatness and happiness. More than anything else though, it's a novel about loneliness. It sneaks up on you, this book, and I had to reread the last chapter to try to get a better fix on the final mark it wished (I thought) leave. Oh Holden, Holden, Holden Caufield. ...more
