What Members Thought
The Blue Castle is a sweet, simple and predictable little book. Written by L. Maud Montgomery of Anne of Green Gables fame, and billed as a book for adults, it is actually a book I would probably have loved when I was thirteen or fifteen. It is blatantly romantic in both its treatment of the people and that of the natural world, but its closing chapters somewhat undo all the points it appeared to be making about happiness and material wealth.

I loved this book, and recommend it. This is a story about a twenty-nine year old single woman, whose family have verbally abused her all of her life. They demanded obedience, and lived a rather drab life. A doctors visit changes her life, when she thinks she may only have a year to live. She brings a change upon herself, as well as the man she marries, and brings love and joy to both of them. I love the descriptions of nature, and the coziness of the couple's life out on his island home.
