I have read the book and seen the movie. Some of the book is in the movie, but only a bit as far as I could tell. I did like both.
Mary Yellan has lost her mother and goes to live with her Aunt Patience, the sister of her mother, and the aunt's husband Joss Merlyn. Joss owns Jamaica Inn which is the base for ship wreckers and smugglers.
Aunt Patience is a frail woman and when Mary finds out about the smugglers, she wants to leave with her aunt but the aunt is faithful to her husband.
