Even though this begins with an account of college boxing, this wasn't as "grr, lads 'n' stuff" (© Father Ted?) as I'd always thought it would be. As Philipp Meyer's brief intro to this edition says, Hemingway's reputation precedes him and isn't necessarily accurate about his books. Whilst I never want to see a bullfight Hemingway has left me with an indescribable desire to venture to Spain and attend a fiesta. Hemingway has a magical way of creating atmosphere without going into pages of description.

Finally read this and can understand why it is a classic. I see a bit of the "Lost Generation" in today...
