What Members Thought

I typically just read one book at a time unless it’s something I lose interest in, but want to return to it on & off. That’s how it was with ‘Wildfell Hall’.
For me, it took a lot of patience to read this tome & I wish I had enjoyed it more. That being said, I don’t want to discourage anyone from reading it.
I listened to the audiobook from LibriVox read by Expatriate.

Ammetto di aver fatto di tutte le Bronte un fascio, perchè questo librom, anche con la sua netta dicotomia male=maschile e bene=femminile, mi è piaciuto molto. Anne Bronte's book is a story of domestic abuse, alcholism, immoral habits, and feminine determination, told in a realistic, rather than romantic style. It reveals the position and predicament of women at that time as ones who had no independent legal existence. This is my first Anne Bronte read and I enjoyed it much more than works of Charlotte and Emily. Simply wonderful.

In The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Brontë tackles some difficult and controversial issues facing women of her time. She handles this delicate subject matter with grace and poise and creates a character I came to highly respect in Helen. I think I enjoyed this book just as much as Jane Eyre and I do believe Anne Brontë was every bit as talented as her more widely known sisters.
