Had to read this in 7th grade English class, and loved it even though I am SURE that the main significance/nuances probably went over my head at that age. Having re-read it whilst older, I loved it even more. A short book with a powerful message against ownership/capitalism/private property. In fact, I wish it were longer! SO much packed into such a short novella. WORTH READING, everyone!

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed by The Pearl. I'm not a big fan of Steinbeck, but I had to read this because come on, this is Steinbeck, a classic author of american literature!
The book tells the story of a poor mexican family, who one day discover "The Pearl of The World", a huge pearl that they hope to sell for a big price, to finally have a decent life. Alas, the wealthy sellers are trying to fool the poor family and the Pearl begins to bring bad things upon Kino's family.
