What Members Thought
I chose to reread The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because I like the author's prose and humor. Having recently reread The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, I thought why not reread this too. I found that I prefer Tom Sawyer over this. Huck's story reads more strongly as a plot-oriented, exciting adventure story, even if both are classified as such. Reading this now as an adult, I am not as captivated as I was as a child by adventure stories.

There is a reason this is a classic. It's because it's good. It is a bit odd at times trying to intrepret the dialogue but a fun read all the same. Huckleberry Finn is told in first person from the view of the title character. He was introduced in another of Mark Twain's great classic novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Even though I'm a sucker for unreliable characters, I didn't love this as much as I thought I might. I'm a fan of Twain so I did like it, but not as much as I thought.
It was hard to read the racial slurs. Twain certainly embodied that aspect of the era in this book.
Twain's colloquialisms and dialect are amazing and spot-on. I doubt there will be another like him. ...more
