Charles Dickens had a brilliant facility with language. He spins lovely, funny, engaging sentences that make me wish for an ease with words like his. I love the way he tells the story. Close to the beginning of this book there was a paragraph describing Scrooge that was so vivid and clever, I laughed out loud causing my husband to question what I had heard.

This is a tale that everyone knows -- or at least has some m knowledge about. And, like most I have seen the movie. But this is the first yea ...more
