What Members Thought

Immediately a favorite book. Immediately my newest favorite author. Didn’t think that this would be my thing (farmers, family saga, dense classic that I had only peripherally head of) but MY GOODNESS did this blow me away. I get it why Steinbeck called this his magnum opus because SIR, he did THAT. Recommending this to everyone I can until the day I die, thank you very much.

The amount of guilt I have over not loving this book is rather great. I’m trying to figure out if I missed something. I get the themes. I understand timshel, and I see the cyclical evil and goodness in the families. But honestly, the book is close to 700 pages that could have been cut to 350 pages. It was unnecessarily wordy and offered mindless chatter.
I can appreciate the saga, but I just never felt connected to anyone in the story.
