A true masterpiece, and it can't be easy to stay that way for more than 700 pages (written small by the way). The story of Adam and his sons, which in broad strokes could also trace that of Cain and Abel, is wonderful; it is no accident that Steinbeck is considered one of the greatest American (and not only) authors of the 20th century. It took a reading group to push me tp read all these pages, but it was so worth it.

Amazing

This is one of the best books I've ever read. Leaving Eden into a world of toil, repeating generational sins and curses, the serpent, Cain and Abel over and over, good and less good gifts, the power the older generation holds over the younger, and a thread of mercy and grace running thru it all for those who take the time to see and turn towards it.
